Purpose of this Log

1. To help hold me accountable to myself and to the Lord. It helps me be more intentional and apply observation and correction more effectively.

2. To be transparent to others that they may also hold me to account and help sharpen me (GENTLY PLEASE) as they feel led by the Lord.

3. As I proceed prayerfully and intentionally, under the canopy of God's grace applying observation and correction along the way, my hope is that others can also learn a thing or two from my failings...make that "learnings"...and also from my victories in the Lord.

In a Nutshell

I am following an approach to eating that is outlined in the "Thin Within" book by Judy and Arthur Halliday. I am not focussing on measuring or weighing foods or labelling foods as "good" or "bad" but rather aiming to eat when I'm hungry ("0") and stop when I'm satisfied ("5"), focussing on the keys to conscious eating (listed in the right hand column).

Another central Thin Within (and more importantly biblical) teaching that I aim to use with this food log is observation and correction, living under the canopy of God's grace on the path of God's provision. In a nutshell it's about turning to God and confessing and repenting and the amazing grace and love of God that changes us from the inside out.

Keeping in mind at all times...

The most important aim of my life needs to be to "seek first His kingdom and His righteousness" (Matt. 6:33) and sit at my Lord's feet, feasting at the Lord's table (Ps. 23:5), getting "fat on Jesus," filling up on His Word and finding true satisfaction that can be found in Him alone. The Lord's Table study brought this into proper focus for me.

"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

January 8

Exercise: 40 minute walk

0-5 at 8:30am
1 pc french toast w/ syrup, cup of milk, mandarine orange

I was able to eat on the one side of my mouth, thankfully. I still had to be careful to protect the broken tooth, but it just made me slow down with my eating a little more :-) I'm in to see a dentist this afternoon.

0-3 at 11:30am
grapefuit juice box

"0" at 12:30pm
On the way to my dentist appointment so I'm going to need to wait.

0-4 at 2:15pm
granola bar and yogurt

0-5/6 at 5:15pm
broccoli/beef stirfry with rice, corn, 1 cookie, some chocolate pieces and a hot chocolate

A step in the right direction...
I was so ecstatic that my tummy rumbled right as we sat down at the table for supper! I was feeling hunger begin to set in as I made supper, but then that little rumble RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT, just before we prayed, was so cool:-) I couldn't help but thank God:-) I'm not terribly legalistic about the rumble as I now feel comfortable assessing my hunger based on other symptoms I experience. However the rumble continues to be one of the most common and truest signs of hunger for me.

Observation: I ate my supper a little too quickly, particularily the sweets at the end.

Correction: I really should have a "supper" in His Word prior to eating. A few moments of filling up on Him and very intentionally giving my body to Him as a living sacrifice would have made a big difference. I want to continue focussing on thanking God with each and every bite of food that goes into my mouth, savoring the gift of tastebuds and food and family and fellowship that are all such a blessing.

Well, it was just a tad painful! They opted to not do any freezing as there was no decay...therefore no drilling etc I'm guessing. All they had to do was cover up the tooth with the filling. But first they cleaned it out with some air and water (?). That was quite painful. Then as the dentist covered the corner of the tooth with filling it was quite painful... But, praise God, she was able to put a filling on. 70% of my tooth is a filling however, so a crown may be inevitable. But I'll prolong that as long as possible, as that will be very costly. That whole side of my mouth is aching right now though. Ah, well. I'm just thankful they could fix it up. And I'm also thankful for 100% insurance coverage for fillings as that work cost $164!

Thanks for checking up:-)

Praise God for insurance. Sorry about the pain your feeling. I can all too well relate as I walk around with a cracked crown in my mouth. I'll pray for you to feel better soon.

Thanks so much ladies! Your prayers and care mean a lot to me. The pain and discomfort have totally subsided now, praise God! I noticed a turn for the better at suppertime.

Paula, a cracked crown? Ugh. That doesn't sound good.

100% coverage is great. I think that is only for cleanings and fillings...but that is all I've had done so far.

Well, I'll be back on in a bit. Time to go read some "Anne of Avonlea" to my daughters. We finished Anne of Green Gables before christmas and are now starting on the next book.
